mieke chantrel

Mieke was born in Rotterdam in 1954. For many years, she worked in the pre-school education system but now pursues her real passion, for painting. She has a fondness for working with acrylics, creating a series of artistic works each with its own atmosphere – these being colourful and full of momentum, creating a sense of warmth and cosiness. Spain, her place of residence for part of the year, has had a major impact on Mieke’s work. Using acrylics in combination with mix-materials  produces a coarser structure, which adds a fascinating dimension to the finished work.

The main subject in Mieke’s work is ’the Woman‘.  She focuses on ‘the bigger picture’, disregarding  superfluous detail; the facial features for example are left to the viewers’ imagination. But what one sees is undeniably the female form; an elegant, ornate, moving representation of fashion and image conscious women.
